Wondering what you need to bring in order to ensure that your safe, prepared and as comfortable as you can be after a 24 hour arse pounding? Well fear thee not oh bastardly one, here's a (very) comprehensive list of suggestions on what you may want to bring (pick and choose what you think is important as to bring it all may result in a tad too much gear!):
Rider gear:
- waterproofs
- riding pants
- riding jacket
- reflective vest (especially important for small capacity scooters)
- gloves x 2 (inc a waterproof/warm pair)
- boots
- helmet
- scarf
- extra warmth (like thermals or even a heated vest)
- bicycle shorts (or similar non sweaty undies)
- fancy socks (the type that keep feet warm or cool)
- sunglasses
- mobile phone (for emergencies and CAA pick-up)
- map holder (riders get a mapbook in a ziplock bag – you may want something a little more user friendly)
Motorcycle gear:
- special seat cushion/sheepskin (you’ll be sat on yer arse for a long, long time)
- anti-fog spray (for the visor as may be foggy in morning)
- digital camera and batteries (points are awarded for certain pics – be sure to wipe the card first)
- maps (for Ontario and Quebec, in case you get hopelessly lost)
- snacks and water (for the road)
- earplugs (if you have a noisy helmet)
- bungee cords (for carrying gear)
Tools (a bit overkill, but feel free to pick and choose):
please note that we don't think you'll need a jerry can for extra gas. We try to ensure that there will be open gas stations en route at least every 100 km.
- tire levers
- tubes/ puncture repair kit (fix-a-flat)
- inflation device (bicycle pump)
- tire gauge
- fuel siphon (if one of you runs out of gas, and you’re in a team …)
- electrical/duct tape (great for temp fixes)
- oil (especially if you're running a two stroke)
- spare brake lever (that little crash need not be the end of your rally)
- spare bulbs (front and rear)
First Aid kit:
- acetaminophen/Ibuprofen (keep the pain at bay!)
- sterile wound dressing
- personal medications (inhaler, antihistamines etc)
- sunblock
- elastic wrap for sprain or swollen joint
- bug repellent (hey, you'll be out there ... and so will the bugs!)
Checks:
- overall condition of the bike (trust us, you wanna go more than 100 yards after all the prep work you'll have to do)
- oil level(s)
- fuel (topped up and ready to go!)
- tire conditions/pressure (you’d be amazed at how many tire changes we’ve seen on the Friday night)
- paperwork (insurance & ownership & CAA card)
