The Final Tally

MBSR-Percy-1040382-1-MPercy (aka Scooterman) takes top honours and the title of "Maddest Bastard of them all"!This year’s Mad Bastard Scooter Rally was a smashing success despite unrelenting wet weather and cool temperatures. The route, including the bonus loop, covered 726 km and wound through some of the most scenic areas of Ontario’s Muskoka region.

Percy Adler (Scooterman) took the overall win riding his 2009 Yamaha C3 scooter in the Straight Jacket class. In lieu of accepting the Kymco People S 125 grand prize supplied by KYMCO Canada, Adler opted to let rally organizers raffle it off with the proceeds going to the Kids Help Phone. Class act for a Mad Bastard, no? BTW, even without the scooter raffle, the Mad Bastards raised more than $15,000 for the Kids Help Phone.

We’ll keep you informed of the raffle as soon as we have the info.

MAD BASTARD RALLY 2011 – FINAL STATS

Number of riders registered – 92 (by registration cutoff)
Number of riders at starting line – 80 (12 did not make it due to last minute issues)
Number of riders returned – 66 (14 did not finish due to breakdown, fatigue or failure to return within allotted time for their class)
Money raised for Kid Help Phone – over $15,000
(does not include future proceeds from raffling of KYMCO People S 125 main prize)

WINNERS (out of a possible 1,000 points)

Straitjacket class (up to 50 cc) – Percey Adler, 894 points (ALSO OVERALL RALLY WINNER)
Heavily Medicated class (50 – 110 cc) - Mario Seguin, 635 points
Therapy Required class (110 – 200 cc – includes motorcycle guest class) – Rick & David Bergsma (joint winners), 513 points
Day Release class (over 200 cc) – John Seesink, 425 points

In the meantime you can read Costa's report on the rally on CMG, and we've also set up a Smugmug account with all the submitted pics from the event here:

TODAY IS THE DAY!

mbsr_2011_shirtsA lovely t-shirt awaits for all participants.

It seemed so far away then all of a sudden, here it is! The 2011 Mad Bastard Scooter Rally kicks off today and up to 100 Mad Bastards will be making their way to the Holiday Inn (Essa road exit) in Barrie, Ontario in order to compete for the title of Maddest Bastard of them all and go home with a new KYMCO People 125 S.

Though the weather forecast is changeable, the good news is that Saturday is looking brighter with some sun and the occasional shower, but riders should be prepared for the worst and bring rain gear as it's a long old time to be on the road sitting in a puddle.

We'd also like to emphasize that what ever you end up wearing for the rally, please make it safe. Also be aware that your maps are (as always) provided in letter sized sheets in a Ziplock baggie. Please be sure to have a good and safe system in place for reading said maps, but be sure that you won't lose them either as you have just the one copy!

This year we've been a little secretive about the exact Mad Points available. They haven't changed much from the previous rally but we will be revealing just what you get for what once riders have registered today. However, we can announce right now what prizes we have up for grabs at this evening's charity raffle:

Full Bore Marketing     Helmets or t-shirts (will confirm details today)
Holiday Inn Barrie     Restaurant voucher - pizza & pop
Holiday Inn Barrie     Golf package (Overnight accommodation; 2 x 18 holes for Heritage Hills; 2 x breakfast to go bags)
KYMCO Canada     $20 Shell Gas certificate
KYMCO Canada     Cineplex Movie certificates
Motoress     Motoress beauty gear kit
Motoress     Motoress sleep & scooter tees
MXP Magazine     Various gear
NEXO Sports      Scooter jacket
Opticianado     2 x $50 gift certificates (eyewear)
Studio Cycle Group     Diesel scooter helmet
Yamaha     Hybrid backpack
Yamaha     Helmet bag
Yamaha     2 x $50 gift certificates (Yamabucks)

and of course, Quality Jewellers / Bulova     Bulova Watch (for the most money raised)

Whatever happens, here's to a successful and above all, fun weekend. May the maddest bastard win!

Cheers, Rob Harris
